RPS2 – Grey Bottomed Blues Set

Around 1964, grey-bottom pickups began to appear in Stratocasters—the very instruments favoured by the iconic players we all admire. These pickups were slightly hotter, with improved magnet quality and far greater consistency compared to their earlier counterparts. The result was a livelier, more responsive pickup, offering increased snap and a heightened sensitivity to pick attack—hallmarks of the evolving Stratocaster tone of the mid-60s.

This set also features hand-bevelled magnets, crafted with precise reproductions of the Alnico V formulations widely employed during this golden era of pickup design.

It further includes our revolutionary polepiece stagger—a considered departure from the traditional Stratocaster layout, which was originally intended for use with a wound G string. This modern adaptation allows for optimal string-to-string balance across the vast majority of contemporary instruments.

All three pickups—neck, middle, and bridge—are fitted with Alnico V magnets, with the middle unit reverse-wound and reverse-polarity (RWRP) to provide hum-cancelling operation in the in-between positions.
